1. Summer Maintenance Articles
In summer, many areas will be extremely hot and the temperature will be horribly high, which will cause some domestic UV flatbed printers take on ink-flying and ink-picks phenomenon. Controlling a suitable indoor temperature and cleaning up indoor environment are the best maintenance of printhead and the whole printing machine. Since most customers haven’t dealt the connection of UV flatbed printer’s ground wire well when installed and used the printer, when autumn comes, the air humidity drops significantly, even some areas’ humidity will be less than 20%. These can cause serious static phenomenon, making the ink droplets change the original printing direction and blur the nozzles before spraying to the media. If this problem hasn’t been solved for a long time, electrostatic voltage on the printing machine will reach 6 ~ 10V, which is very likely to cause the harm to the printhead.

3. Improved Methods
UV flatbed printer must be paid serious attention to earth wire grounding, main practices: 0.5㎡copper sheet needed to be welded well, 4mm²copper wire needs buried into the moist soil underground morethan 1.5 meters, and then poured salt water well. It is better to use a entire electric line without any joints as ground wire and to guarantee a good contact between ground wire and machine.

Please ensure that the humidity around the UV flatbed printer would be within 40-60% relative humidity, so that the static electricity generated by PVC medium friction will transmit out through air,and will not affect the ink droplets on nozzles. The standard of purchasing industrial humidifier is not less than 4 literswater consumption per hour, if ventilation is good, please try to select a 6 liter/hour water consumption humidifier.

In spring and winter, UV flatbed printer will always encounter a variety of problems during use, although details vary, but most are associated with cold and wet. Next, summarize a few notes on these phenomenons, hope these can be helpful on the  maintenance of UV flatbed printer’s printhead.

1. In general, please do not put UV flatbed printer on the ground, especially carpeted floor, because it is easy to contain foreign matter or dust flew inside the machine. In the winter, indoor work environment is cold and dry,please preferably use a large and thick cloth to cover on the printer, because the printhead is inside of the printer, and if we can guarantee no much cold air go into the inner space of the printer, it will prevent the ink droplets on nozzles from solidification, or it will be easy to plug printhead, leading to decrease print quality. In addition, UV flatbed printer itself working mode determines the machine must be placed on the horizontalplane. Tilted way of working will not only affect print quality, slow down working speed of printhead,and will also damage the internal mechanical structure.

2. In winter and spring, please boot once a week at least. When booting, the printer machine need to preheat and it will clean printhead automatically (usually boot cleaning consumes small amount of inks). It can dischargeoriginal ink droplets attached on the printhead, which could avoid printhead plug because of long-time stay of inks. Meanwhile, place the nozzles used one time and see if there is the phenomenon of printing missing lines.(the phenomenon of missing lines is usually because of printhead plug).

We can see that there is a relatively smooth gavelock cross on UV flatbed printer when open the top cover(this operation must be carried out in the off state.),in the industry, this gavelock is called guide bar, it is the working guid rail of UV flatbed printer. It has lubricant on guide bar, which makes the printing work faster and more precise. However, the cold winter weather is easy to make lubricating oil solidified, and plus the lack of routinemaintenance(such as, always opening the top cover when printer works,which leads dust constantly invade guide bar.), and these are likely to make the carriage appear abnormal. At this point, we need to drop a few drops of precision lubricating oil onto the guide bar, and try to clear the filth original left on the guide bar.

4.Common Faults and Solutions, Daily Maintenance of UV flatbed printer

Fault 1: print head clogging, strong acidic ink or contamination precipitation UV flatbed printer’s clogging is mostly caused by contamination precipitation. Another possible cause is the strong acidic ink that corrodes the print head.

Solution: 
If the broken ink supplying system and print head’s clogging are caused by don’t use the printer for a long time or uses not original ink, it is better to washing the print head. If water can’t solve the problem, you can only take down the print head, soak it in 50 °C ~ 60 °C clear water and clean it with ultrasonic cleaner. After the cleaning process, you can reuse the print head after drying.

Fault 2: the speed of the carriage become slower, then the print speed comes down.The original cartridges are often refitted while refitting the CISS. Such refitting will inevitably increase the burden of the carriage. The carriage will become slower when holding too heavy load. At the same time, the heavy load will accelerate the aging process of the belt and increase the friction between the carriage and connecting rod. These are the possible causes why UV printer’s print speed becomes slower. In severe cases, the carriage can’t reset, and then can’t use.

Solutions:
Change the motor. The friction between the CISS’ rubber tube and printer’s body will increase the burden of the motor. It is suggested to change new motor after a long time of using.Lubricate the connecting rod.After a long time of using, the friction between the carriage and connecting rod will increase, and then decrease the motor’s running speed. This problem can be solved by lubricating the connecting rod The belt is old The increase of friction between the motor’s gear and printer’s belt will increase the belt’s aging process. This problem can be solved by cleaning the gear and lubricate it.

Fault 3: can’t identify the cartridge. This situation is very common among users who use CISS: the printer does not print after a period of time. The cause is that the printer can’t identify the black cartridge

Solutions
The main cause of this situation is that UV flatbed printer’s waste ink tank is full. Actually each UV flatbed printer has fixed life span setting for each component. When some components reach the set life span, the printer will note ‘can’t print’. When using CISS, waste ink easily comes out, this will cause waste ink bottle easily become full. When encountering such kind situation, we can take the following steps:Firstly clear and reset this UV flatbed printer’s main board with clear software to clear the UV flatbed printer’s settings.Secondly change the waste ink bottle’s sponge at a maintenance point. 

Fault 4: the UV printer cleaning cap-top is another main cause of clogging. UV printer cleaning pump’s nozzle has a decisive effect in protecting the print head. After resetting the carriage, the cleaning cap-top will do weak exhaust treatment for the print head to seal and protect it. When changing new cartridges or the print head nozzle doesn’t eject smoothly, the suction pump need to suck the print head through the cleaning pump’s nozzle. The higher the suction pump’s working accuracy, the better. In reality, suction pump’s performance and air tightness will drop because of long time use and the increase of dust and ink residues. If the operator doesn’t check and clean the suction pump regularly, the UV printer’s print head will constant have problems like clogging, so it is necessary to maintain the suction pump timely.

Solutions:
Remove the UV printer’s top cover and carriage; clean it with clear water with syringe, more attention should be paid tothe Microporous gasket while cleaning. Important notice: you should never clear this part with ethanol and methanol,otherwise Microporous gasket will dissolve and become distorted. At the same time, please don’t contact lubricating oil.with the cleaning pump’s nozzle. Oil will distort the sealing rubber beside the cleaning pump’s nozzle, and then it can’t seal and protect the print head.


5.How to maintain the UV LED flatbed printer

1.Ensure it is clear around the uv flatbed printer. When too much dust in the work environmental, it is easily cause the linear rail guider in poor lubrication, let the printheads suffocated when moving during printing, cause printing in the wrong place or crashing the mechanism, at last let the machine damaged or system halted. When the printhead did’t go back to the original place then re-start the printer, the printer will let the printhead go back to your original place firstly, then do the cleaning process for the printheads, and this will cause some unnecessary wast for ink. The common way to solve this problem is remove the dust on the linear rail guider, and lubricate it( choose the better liquid lubricating oil, like Sewing Machine Oil ).
2.Must ensure have a firm flat bed for the uv flatbed printer, do not put anything above the flatbed. The front cover must be closed when printing, and avoid dust enter inside the printer or some other hard goods stop the carriage moving. Forbid pull out or plug into the electrical cable when it with power, this will damage the LPT of the printer and the EPP of the PC, the most seriously will damage the main board of the PC. If the print out is not clear, can try use the auto cleaning function to clean the printheads, but this will consumpt few ink. If the printing effect still be satisfied after continuously cleaning, then maybe the ink is use up, need change the cartridges.
 
3. Before turn off the uv flatbed printer, the printhead must be back to original place( the printhead will go back to the original place when the printer In a suspended state). To do this is for, firstly, to avoid wast ink when start the machine and re-clean the printhead next time, secondly, the printhead can be sealed by the protective cover in the original place, and let the printhead don’t clog easily.
 
4. The cartridges of the UV flatbed printer need be calibrated often. The experienced users on UV flatbed printer knows that, to improve the printing resolution and quality, it need calibrate the printer after reset the cartridges or change new cartridges.

5. To avoid wast ink or the printer miscount the ink quantity, You’d better do not take of the cartridge when the cartridge had not used up.

6. The cartridge need put on the normal temperature and avoid direct sunlight when the cartridges don’t use for a long time. Because the uv ink will evaporate quickly in this environment, and easily cause clog the printheads. Besides, in the low temperature and humid environment, the electric circuit of the printheads easily go wrong.
 
7. Have to follow the steps in the manual when change the cartridges of the uv flatbed printer, especially notice that need do above steps under the state of the power turning on. Because after change the cartridges, the printer will deliver the ink into system and fulfill ink, and this process can’t proceed under turning off state, the reset cartridges can be tested by the printer. Moreover,some printer use the inner electronic calculator to calculate the volume of the ink in the cartridges( especially in calculating the colorful inks), when the value of the calculator reach a certain value, the printer can judge the ink used out. During changing the cartridge, the printer will recover the inner electronic calculator, and then check reset new cartridges.
 
8. Moreover, the Raster strip of the UV flatbed printer should protect well. To avoid locating inaccurately, don’t touch it by hands, and don’t stain by dust.

How to clean the printhead
Preparations: at the back station of the printing nozzle in the printer include the drive electric board for the printing nozzle,so need protect the the drive electric board work well, pack half of the back station with the preservative film we use daily

First step: Soaking
Prepare a small flat plate, and put the printhead into the plate, then inject some special cleaning solution for the uv printer into the plate, the deep is just covering the printing nozzle. Notice that don’t spray any water to the cable plug and the drive board, it will last about one hour in the first soaking

Second step: cleaning
1. Sucking the water spots on the printheads by using the wet cloth, don’t wipe the nozzle under the printheads
2. Repeat above process on all printheads need be cleaned, it must use the clean area on the cloth to wipe every printhead
3. If clogging happened on the printheads, then can put little heated distilled water into the plate. When put the printheads into the plate, the water mustn’t enter into back of the chip, so the level of the distilled water should up about 2cm above the bottom of the plate.
4. Keep the printheads vertical into the warm water 30 sec., re-test after sucking the printheads dry
5. Every printhead need cleaning by using the cleaning solution.(Also can clean the printheads by using the hyperacoustic
cleaning solution)
